Did someone say “Phantom”?
Zoinks! We’ve opened!
Wednesday night saw an influx of audience members keen on helping the horny mystery solvers find the mysterious phantom of Creepola County County Anywhere Fest at EvilCorp!
Before the show started, patrons got themselves settled in, purchasing food and drinks from the EvilCorp bar and having a good chat with one another, curious about the adventure that awaited them. When the show finally started, audiences were thrilled to see the characters they’d grown up watching walk around and interact with them.
No longer in rehearsal mode, the cast was eager to bring the audience into the show whenever they could, hiding behind people, talking to them; Spooky and Tiffany even got a patron to get up and dance with them!
Despite one cast member being unfortunately absent, one of EvilCorp’s own actors, Gene Vonbanyard, stepped in for the role of Big Woody. Even with little preparation time, Gene shone in the role, and opposite Cecile Campbell as Mrs Woodhaven, they became a hilarious duo. Thanks to Nathan’s direction, Gene picked up everything exceptionally quickly. Good job Gene!
Audiences were practically falling out of their seats throughout the night, but one of the scenes that got the most laughs was when Spooky (Mikayla Maree Melo) and Scraggly (Mikey Real) were left alone and spooked by an EvilCorp bartender. The only way to defend yourself against an EvilCorp bartender? Throw a half-eaten hotdog at them! At least that’s what Spooky and Scraggly thought (not that Spooky was thrilled about leaving a hotdog behind)!
Another favourite moment was Tiffany (Chantelle Eileen Miller) and Ted (Dan Pohlmann)’s dance sequence. Audiences were cheering so loud when Ted’s Magic Mike routine started that it’s almost certain that they could be heard from the street above. And when Ted’s shirt came off, more than a few ladies were left blushing.
The real standout of the night was the maze chase sequence. Audiences were squealing and screaming as they watched the Phantom chase the Spooky gang, before being chased themselves as Ted and Tiffany led them from the maze! With chase music done by Nathan Schulz, audiences were accompanied by Sweet’s ‘Ballroom Blitz’.
The Phantom was finally caught, but where’s the fun in revealing it here? They may have been caught once, but rumour has it the Phantom is planning another outing on Friday night!
